概要 Abstract |
Liddy Nevile has worked in the past on projects involving all children within a given context having their own notebook computers from an early age and also on all children in a given context learning programming from an early age. These were exceptional situations that were first created in the 1980's for children in Australian schools. Since then, many of the world's more privileged children have had experience of one or the other, and in some cases both. In a new project initiated by the scientists at the MIT Media Lab, a computer that hopefully will cost no more than $100 US is being developed with extensive help from many quarters, including open source software developers and those countries that have so far committed to orders of one or more millions of such computers. An emerging open source programming language that may be used on these computers was recently tried for the first time with small children in rural Cambodia. Older children have already worked for some time on prototypes of the new language. This talk will describe the projects and some of the already available indications of the likely outcomes. |
