概要 Abstract |
Professors of Library and Information Science play a key role in educating future librarians, archivists, and information scientists in North America; however, an often overlooked component in their “professional formation” are the student chapters of professional associations and other student associations. This presentation will discuss their role as laboratories for nurturing leadership and service. This English-language presentation will briefly examine the role of student associations as grassroots democratic movements, which emerged in the 1930s, and 1960s/70s, as well as the national chapters of specialized information industry sectors. This paper will look at the University of Hawaii Library and Information Science Program, with its many organizations, as a model in terms of programs, activities, and also will explore their role in advancing change and democratic consensus making between students and faculty during this period. |
